Signing up for our new e-mail/distribution/newsletter list

Your communications team has been in the process of retiring our old MailMan based e-mail distribution system and replacing it with a more modern newsletter distribution system capable of faster delivery with fully graphical content.

Last week we did a group unsubscribe to all 450 remaining subscribers after dozens of warnings and mail outs. We had a few concerned e-mails from folks suspecting a phishing attack. This is good news because it means that people are on their toes. The reality is, in order for it to be a true phishing attempt there has to be a motive to get personal information or deceive the client/user into believing they are logging into something familiar, like a bank account or corporate login.

Defined – Phishing is a form of fraud in which the attacker tries to learn information such as login credentials or account information by masquerading as a reputable entity or person in email, IM or other communication channels.

Our newsletter sign-up form is part of the two step enrolment process – so you are not logging into something familiar and you are not giving away personal information, credit card or financial information or downloading malicious information or software to your computer.

Here at CUPE951 we value our members privacy and do not share e-mail with anyone – including CUPE National or CUPE BC (who occasionally and gently ask us to share our e-mail databases with them [which is illegal in Canada])
We share our e-mail list with no one. Guaranteed!
