Have We Got an IDEA for YOU!
Are you a member of an equity deserving group: Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+, Persons With Disabilities, Racialized, Black, Women, Young Worker (under 30)? Or an ally?
Are you interested in Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility?
Then, have we got an IDEA for you!
The IDEA committee came out of the former Human Rights & Equity Issues (HR&EI) Committee, chaired by Laurie Whyte. As per our recently updated Bylaws, the new Chair of the IDEA Committee will be ratified and sworn in May 2024 and will sit on the CUPE 951 Executive Committee with full voice and vote for a two-year term. Check here for the new Bylaws language: https://www.cupe951.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/CUPE-951-ByLaws-April-2023-1.pdf
CUPE 951 is one of the few locals in Canada to have a diversity seat on their executive board and an IDEA committee.
Please send an email to lwhyte@uvic.ca to indicate you are interested in being a member of this new, progressive CUPE 951 committee – or even if you would just like more information. Laurie will continue acting as Chair of the committee until a Chair is formally chosen by the committee in May.
We look forward to working with you on the IDEA committee to represent the Inclusion Diversity, Equity and Accessibility needs of our members, to work towards ending discrimination and to promote our union’s involvement in social activism.
