Notes from Convention
The 51st Annual CUPE BC Convention was convened on Wednesday evening, April 9th. In attendance from our local are: Doug Sprenger, Pat Shade, Laurie Whyte, Cheryl DeWolfe, Karen Dykes, Kirk Mercer, and Arden Little.
The Executive board wasted no time getting work underway as basic business was done before we were greeted and welcomed by local First Nations, the Mayor of Vancouver, and other unions (CUPE Alberta, HEU, and BCTF). A video highlighted the fights and victories from the past year before President Mark Hancock addressed the delegates for the first time in that role, having replaced Barry O’Neill.
Day two got underway early, with a long list of resolutions to consider and our delegates were busy scratching out speaking notes for those resolutions we each care most passionately about.
You can follow along at Facebook and Twitter to see updates, photos, and important decisions as they happen. The official hashtag for the conference is #cupebc2014 where you can see updates from many of the locals in attendance!
