Black History Month
This February CUPE 951 proudly celebrates Black History Month and would like to share some of the important work being done around our campus and beyond. Since May of 2023 the Scarborough Charter Steering Committee has been working to integrate the principles from the Scarborough Charter on Anti-Black Racism and Black Inclusion in Canadian Higher Education. The UVSS supports Black students with the BIPOC Support Hub, the Students of Colour Collective, and the African and Caribbean Student’s Association is run through the UVSS. Outside UVic, the BC Black History Awareness Society strives to chronicle BC’s Black History – and its first ever “catalog” is housed at UVic’s MacPherson library!
